Monkey Capture Story

Wild Male monkey terrorizing Mayang Jaya folks finally captured!

Today, on the 21st September 2011, the male monkey or as I would like to refer him as Papa monkey, has finally met its fate.

At about 8am I saw him over at the top roof of my rear neighbour's house. I immediately set the trap using my daughter’s room to capture the monkeys. The monkeys has been frequent guest of my daughters room, hence, it wasn't quite difficult to ensnare the monkeys.

At about 9 am Papa monkey sneak in the room to eat a banana sitting very near the window sensing it maybe a trap. He surveyed my daughter’s room quickly and left. Later, at about 9.30 am, he came back again to check the room, in fact handling the rope I have used to tie to the window's handle. He felt a bit uncomfortable and left in a jiffy.

Ten minutes later, baby monkey was wondering just outside the window ledge. Somehow, Mama monkey must have warned him and he left as well.

I was feeling a bit disappointed and I was thinking maybe the monkeys are very smart after all and today may not be the day. I left the trap for about 15 minutes and I was alerted by my maid that the monkeys have returned. I quickly went back to my daughter’s room to execute the snare.

Somehow, this time the Papa monkey climbed into the room quite confidently and without hesitation walked on a table towards the bananas i placed away from the window.

As he was about to reach for the bananas I pulled the rope which was attached to the window handle and ramped it shut. He is caught and has no way to escape. I immediately shut the room door and got my maid to fetch a trap I purposely constructed for the monkeys. I moved it delicately into the room hoping the monkey would walk into the trap cage. He was too smart for his own good instead he ran into the toilet and tried to open the windows but to no avail.

I decided to call Jabatan Perhilitan and I was told their officers were in fact in Mayang Jaya to attend to complains by residents about the nuisance the monkeys have been causing in the community. They arrived immediately and Encik Hamzah appeared at my door less than 5 minutes after my phone call. He brought an assistant who carried a pole with a loop and Encik Hamzah was carrying a rifle.

They immediately proceeded to my daughter's room upstairs. I asked if they were going to capture the monkey alive. They took a look at the monkey and said it would be difficult as it is a 'jantan kera' or male monkey and it is pretty big and dangerous. I then asked Encik Hamzah if his rifle shoots tranquilizers. He said no, it is actually a rifle with live bullets and he is going to shoot the monkey. I said it is your call you are supposed to be the experts.

In less than 10 minutes he fired his shot and hit the monkey right between the eyes. I asked why didn't you shoot him in the body, he said he was afraid the bullet may penetrate the body and hit and damaged my toilet tiles.
