The house was broken into while someone in it around 12 noon by 3 Chinese with  parang and got away in a Black Car (Car No Unknown).

Residents Must Report Suspicious Activities
Know Your Neighbours, Authorities Advise

WHEN you notice something suspicious happening in your neighbourhood, do not hesitate to call the police.

“If you see someone suspicious or hear strange noises from your neighbour’s house, give us a call and we will send a patrol car to check on it,” said Kelana Jaya police station head C/Insp Saunders Henry during a recent dialogue with Taman Mayang Jaya residents.

Residents’ Association chairman Sunny Yap moderated the dialogue between the police and residents. Henry said that even if police found no wrongdoing, the person who made the call would not be penalised.

Deputy police station head Sjn Mejar Christopher Gerard Rajoo also advised residents to call the direct line to the Petaling Jaya IPD control room at 03-7955 9222 or its bilik gerakan at 03-7966 2222.

“You can also call directly to the Kelana Jaya police station 03-7806 2222,” he said, adding that these numbers would cut down the response time compared to calling the general 999 number.

Taman Mayang Jaya security head Jeff Chan said that it was now more common for burglaries to happen in the morning when people were at work.

“You must know your neighbours so that they can keep a look out for you and call the police if they see something suspicious,” said Chan.

Resident Lim Yau Lee asked if it was possible for the police to send officers patrolling on foot especially near the LRT station because snatch thefts were common when people walk back from the station.

Henry said that they did not currently have officers patrolling on foot but he had asked the LRT’s auxiliary police to help out and extend their patrol outside the station premises.

Former Taman Mayang Jaya RA chairman Liew Wei Beng said that putting up barricades have helped to reduce crime but they need 600 homes to subscribe to the scheme to start day patrolling.

If residents were paying a security company to guard their neighbourhood and there are still frequent break-ins, Christopher said that the police would not hesitate to check on the company.

“We have made checks before. There must be something wrong if there guards are there but houses are still broken into.
“We would do a background check on the guards to see if they have criminal records,” he said.

Police dialogue 24.7.2010

A dialogue with the police from Kelaya Jaya was held on 24th July 2010 at the Balai Taman Mayang Jaya. The event was supposed to start at 8.30pm but being a Malaysian tradition the turn up at 8.30pm was very poor with around 10 person present only. Luckily when the event started 10 or 15 minutes later the turnout was around 40 to 50 person.

The police were represented by the new CI Mr. Saunders Henry and his assistant Sergeant Major Christopher. There were accompanied at the main table by the RA Chairman Mr Sonny Yap, TMY Security Chairman Mr. Chan and representing Magnum was Mr. Liew Wei Beng - our past Chairman. Magnum was the sponsor , it being their CSR event.

Security being an important factor in our lives the questions for the police came fast and furious. The police mentioned they cover a very big area but they are being restricted by having only 3 patrol cars and only 79 personnel while the required number is 120 person. Hence the police expect the residents co-operation by being their eyes and ears and call the police station if they notice any suspicious characters in the neighborhood. The residents were given two important numbers to call. The police mention do not call 999 for emergencies. Call the following numbers:-

After the Q & A Mr. Liew, representing Magnum, presented a cheque of RM2,000 to Mr. Sonny Yap for the RA's activities. Later all those present were treated to a sumptous buffet supper.

60 Uses Of Salt

Although you may not realize it, simple table salt has a great number of uses other than simply seasoning your food.The following list will give you sixty uses of salt, many of which youprobably didn't realize :-

1. Soak stained hankies in salt water before washing.

2. Sprinkle salt on your shelves to keep ants away.

3. Put a few grains of rice in your saltshaker for easier pouring.

4. Add salt to green salads to prevent wilting.

5. A tiny pinch of salt with egg whites makes them beat up fluffier.
6. Rub salt on your pancake griddle and your flapjacks won't stick.
7. Use salt to clean your discolored coffee pot.
8. Mix salt with turpentine to whiten your bathtub and toilet bowl.
9. Use a mixture of salt and lemon juice to clean piano keys.
10. Rinse a sore eye with a little salt water.
11. Use salt for killing weeds in your lawn.
12. Eliminate excess suds with a sprinkle of salt.
13. A dash of salt in warm milk makes a more relaxing beverage.
14. A dash of salt enhances the taste of tea.
15. Salt improves the taste of cooking apples.
16. Freshen sponges by soaking them in salt water.
17. Add raw potatoes to stews and soups that are too salty.
18. Clean your greens in salt water for easier removal of dirt.
19. Gelatin sets more quickly when a dash of salt is added.
20. Fruits put in mildly salted water after peeling will not discolor.
21. Fabric colors hold fast in salty water wash.
22. Milk stays fresh longer when a little salt is added.
23. Use equal parts of salt and soda for brushing your teeth.
24. Sprinkle salt in your oven before scrubbing clean.
25. Clean greasy pans with a paper towel and salt.
26. Salty water boils faster when cooking eggs.
27. Sprinkle salt in milk-scorched pans to remove odour.
28. A dash of salt improves the taste of coffee.

57. To remove grease stains in clothing, mix one part salt to four partsalcohol.

58. Sprinkle salt between sidewalk bricks where you don't want grass growing.

59. Polish your old kerosene lamp with salt for a brighter look. Remove odors from sink drain pipes with a strong, hot solution of salt water.

60. If a pie bubbles over in your oven, put a handful of salt on top of the spilled juice. The mess won't smell and will bake into a dry, light crust which will wipe off easily when the oven has cooled.

Quit Smoking - Love Yourself

Toxic gases inhaled during smoking damages the lining of airways and small air sacs in the lungs, causing diseases such as :

Obstructive airway disease

Reactive airway disease

Smaking is the leading cause of deaths due to lung cancer

Smoking accounts for about one third of all cancers

Smoking increases the deposition of fat and formations of blook clots inside the blood vessels, resulting in coronary artery disease, stroke, ulcers and gangrene of the limbs

Fund Raising For SJK (C) Yuk Chai

Sin Chew Daily, together with Gabungan Pertubuhan Cina Malaysia, SJK (C) Yuk Chai and the school Board Of Governors, PTA and Alumni Association is organizing the Petaling Jaya Carnival to raise fund for SJK (C) Yuk Chai for the expansion of the school hall and the rebuilding of classrooms.
